The Great Lakes Literary Center was created to foster regional literary community through writing workshops and new publishing opportunities. We’re working to support underserved writers, starting in our backyard in Pontiac, Michigan. Why Pontiac?
- It’s a literary desert: Pontiac, a city of 60,000, had no bookstores until Scribe Books opened in late 2023. The shop’s used section benefits the GLLC.
- Pontiac’s literacy rate is 10% lower than Michigan’s average
- No regular writers’ groups in Pontiac before GLLC’s Monthly Writers Workshop
- New, accessible publishing opportunities will enhance resumes and applications and give students an edge
Our Vision: A thriving hub for regional literary arts, a vibrant community of readers and writers, support for local writers.
